Mink & Solid Ragdolls

We are very excited to be one of the few breeders focusing on continuing this rare and beautiful Ragdoll color. When we first set eyes on a Mink and Solid colored Ragdoll, it was love at first sight, and we are thrilled to now have obtained one of these rare  Ragdolls for the foundation of our Mink and Solid breeding program.

Mink and Solid colored Ragdolls have been around since the creation of the breed, they are not a new coloring or new breed, but of very old lines that go back to Ann Baker's cattery.   Minks and Solids are purebred, SBT and TICA registered Ragdolls.  When Ann Baker began her Ragdoll breeding program  in 1965, she used a pure white cat named Josephine and bred her to a Burmese looking male named Daddy Warbucks.  (pictures can be seen on our Ragdoll History page).

Anne Baker produced kittens in a variety of colors, including; solid black, white, and black with mittens.  Ann bred the colors down to create the pointed colors we know today.  While she was working to create a pointed variety, Ann continued to breed mink and solid colored Ragdolls to keep their genes in her lines.  Her first show Ragdoll Cat, a Seal Bicolor, was created using the two colored cats mentioned above.  Ann also produced solid colored cats in a variety of colors including: white, mink, and sepia, (which is a very deep color).  There were many Solid and Mink registered Ragdolls in her pedigrees through the 1980's.  Ann also believed that the Solids were important and necessary to maintain the size and eye color of her pointed Ragdolls.  Many breeders, including the Dayton's, only promoted the pointed version of the Ragdoll to the breed clubs and unfortunately, the Minks and Solids become almost extinct.  Some breeders broke away from the Dayton's at that time and started the Ragamuffin breed with the Solid and Mink Ragdoll lines.
Solids and Minks are 100% Ragdoll, and are recognized and registerable.  Many breeders use these non-pointed varieties to introduce new genes into their breeding programs to this day, while maintaining their Ragdoll bloodlines.

Most breeders today choose to exclusively breed the pointed variety of the Ragdoll, as they consider the intentional breeding of Solid and Mink to be controversial.  Only a small group of dedicated breeders are devoted to continuing with these old lines and breed Minks and Solids.  Original Ragdolls is thrilled to be a part of continuing the Ragdoll Tradition Ann Baker so lovingly started.  We feel, as true Ragdoll Breeders and enthusiasts, there is no greater duty than to preserve and promote these rare lines, while educating the public about the true history of the best cat in the world!

SOLID AND MINK RAGDOLL FACTS

The Mink Ragdoll is absolutely the same as a pointed Ragdoll, they have the same personality and temperament, the only difference is it's coloring.  The coat of the Mink is so soft, it is even softer than the Pointed Ragdoll!  Hard to believe, but it is true!  They feel like a Mink Stole!
Minks are born with color, with the points being darker than the points on a pointed Ragdoll.  Minks come in all the Traditional Colors of Seal, Blue, Lilac, Chocolate, Tortie, Cream, Flame, and Blue/Cream.  They also come in the same pattern varieties as the pointed Ragdoll ; Colorpoint, Mitted, Bicolor.  Any of these patterns can also be marked with  either Lynx or Torbie.

The Solid Ragdoll is a non-pointed, self colored, Ragdoll.  Solids can come in a variety of colors; black, blue, chocolate, lilac, red, cream, white, calico/Tortie, and blue/cream.  Solid Ragdolls have the same patterns as the Traditional Pointed Ragdoll, including; Colorpoint, Mitted, and Bicolor.  They can also be marked with Lynx, Smoke, Silver and Shaded.  These are wonderful variations that we feel add variety to our families choices!

Eye Color
The Mink's eye color is noticeably different.  The Traditional Pointed Ragdoll has blue eyes, where the Mink has blue or aqua (blue-green).  The Solid Ragdoll has eyes in shades of green, copper, aqua or odd-colored.
